Jinlong Electric Motor: Stepping into the Intelligent Era from the CNC Age

Amidst the complex and evolving economic landscape, Jinlong Electric Motor is entering a critical year as it seeks breakthroughs. Under the vision of Chairman Ye Jinwu, the company will gradually advance the intelligent upgrading of its traditional motor products, while simultaneously ramping up R&D investments and accelerating the "replacing humans with machines" initiative in production processes—driving product innovation and paving the way for the company's sustainable growth.

 

  Smart Products: From Efficient Motors to the Intelligent Era

 

  The industrial transformation and upgrade have opened up tremendous growth opportunities for the motor industry. By 2020, China's installed motor capacity is expected to reach 2.5 billion kilowatts, with an additional 800 million kilowatts of total installed capacity set to be added over the next five years.

 

  "Green, environmentally friendly, and low-carbon" high-efficiency, energy-saving products are the general trend. Jinlong Electric Motor is one of the earliest companies in China to develop high-efficiency, energy-saving motors and obtain energy-saving certifications. These high-efficiency, energy-saving motors have been included in the national Torch Program projects as well as the National Benefit-the-People Initiative.

 

  "Based on a total installed capacity of 2.5 billion kW, if we can improve the energy efficiency of all motors by 5 percentage points, we could avoid building many additional power plants—and significantly reduce society's overall carbon emissions," said Ye Jinwu, Chairman of Zhejiang Jinlong Motor Co., Ltd.

 

"Data also show that currently, our annual production and sales stand at 700 million to 800 million yuan, with ultra-efficient motors accounting for an increasingly larger share. In fact, their proportion rose by 30% in 2015 compared to 2014—and now they already make up more than 70% of our total sales," said Ye Jinwu.

 

 

  In addition to continuing to develop energy-efficient and high-performance products, starting in 2015, Jinlong Motor also achieved a "zero" breakthrough in smart products.

 

  At the technical department of Jinlong Electric Motor, the company has developed its first smart product—servo motors—which, compared to conventional motors, feature an additional intelligent receiving unit. This allows them to interpret commands more precisely, enabling advanced, intelligent control.

 

  "The original motor would stop randomly, but the new motor can precisely halt exactly where you need it—its control accuracy is incredibly precise," Ye Jinwu explained.

 

  Robots, now widely used in industrial production, primarily rely on servo motors to perform their operations. This is an emerging, large-scale, and rapidly expanding industry that is becoming a new growth driver for businesses. Today, motors are no longer just component-level actuators—they have evolved into sophisticated mechatronic systems capable of delivering precisely defined functionalities.

 

  "As China's equipment manufacturing industry advances toward high-end, precision, and cutting-edge technologies—and as industrialization and信息化 (informatization) converge—intelligent development of motor systems has become an inevitable trend. We have gradually expanded from conventional motors to servo motors, extended our offerings from variable-frequency drives to advanced drivers, and ultimately developed comprehensive, smart products that are now widely used in electric vehicles and the high-end machine tool sector," said Ye Jinwu.

 

  Intelligent Manufacturing: From Manual Labor to "Machines Replacing Humans"

 

  Stepping into Jinlong Motor Corporation, the production workshop is bustling with activity, as several fully automated industrial robots are working intensively.

 

  Over the past few years, Jinlong has been advancing the automation and intelligent upgrading of its existing equipment and facilities. After upgrading and replacing older models with cutting-edge technology, many manual operations have been taken over by robots, enabling paperless production in the workshop. Meanwhile, intelligent devices have replaced the original CNC machine tools.

 

  “Last year, we launched two robotic automation lines for motor spindles. What used to require more than ten workers per line now only needs one or two people on each line, significantly cutting down our labor costs. This year, we plan to roll out additional production lines like these one after another,” said Ye Jinwu.

 

  "There are still many benefits to replacing humans with machines," said Ye Jinwu. "We plan to introduce an automated robotic spraying production line for paint application in the first half of this year. Since robots can be precisely controlled, they ensure more uniform and consistent coating quality while maintaining high standards—and that, in turn, helps save up to 20% on material waste, significantly reducing overall production costs."

 

  By the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Jinlong Electric Motor plans to establish a state-of-the-art R&D and manufacturing base for high-efficiency motors and intelligent products, matching the leading standards in the domestic industry, and will add an annual production capacity of 3 million kilowatts of high-efficiency motors and intelligent products.

 

  Intelligent Management: From the Internet to the Internet of Things

 

  Achieving full-scale intelligent transformation is Ye Jinwu's goal. He believes that leveraging the "Internet" to drive intelligent upgrades is the inevitable path for manufacturing enterprises to thrive.

 

  As early as a few years ago, Jinlong Electric Motor had already begun experimenting with e-commerce sales. "Due to the unique nature of our motor products, we’ve traditionally relied on online negotiations followed by offline transactions. Moving forward, we’ll not only continue promoting our brand online but may also increasingly engage in more online trading activities—leveraging this opportunity to drive smarter logistics and technological innovation," said Ye Jinwu.

 

  In terms of company management, Jinlong is also actively building the Internet of Things: leveraging the construction and implementation of ERP, OA office automation, and other systems to drive upgrades in enterprise operations, production, logistics, and other management areas, ultimately achieving paperless and intelligent daily office workflows. By harnessing internet-based online data transmission and big data capabilities, the company is fostering comprehensive integration and resource sharing across its internal systems. Starting from sales order intake, a seamless online platform for transactions has gradually taken shape, enabling direct data flow—from sales platforms all the way through to procurement and production—and permeating every stage of the process. This approach not only enhances managerial efficiency but also helps reduce production costs significantly.
